Earl Overstreet Jr., 80, of 215 South McKinley Street, Harrisburg, IL died Wednesday August 10, 2011 at 7:16 pm at Herrin Hospital due to a brief illness. Earl was born on April 16, 1931 in Creal Springs, IL to the late Ethel (Henshaw) and Earl Overstreet Sr. He was a man of faith and enjoyed sharing the gospel in both word and song. He was known to sing bass in a variety of quartets throughout the region, including the Peacemakers and Glorylanders Quartets. Earl is survived by 3 children: Jamie (Larry) Rhodes of San Antonio, TX; Rodney (Colleen) Overstreet of Brighton, IL and Kim (Bobby) Holman of Harrisburg, IL. He was a grandfather to 5 grandchildren: Mandy, Angela, Brandy, Jennifer and Amy and a Great Grandfather to 6 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 Brothers: David (Mindy) Overstreet of Iowa City, IA; Harry (Cindy) Overstreet of Eldorado, IL and a Sister: Delores Hilgert of Pinellas Park, FL as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife: Dana (Miller); his beloved daughter: Dana Kelly Overstreet; his dear brother: Gene Overstreet and his wife, Peggy; along with his friend and brother in law: Vern Hilgert. He will be missed by family and friends, including his long time friend: Lavern Underwood. Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL is assisting the family with arrangements. Per Earl’s request, there will be no formal funeral or visitation. I lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and may be mailed to the funeral home or directly to the hospital.
