Ovie C. Edwards, 82, of 11787 Nixville Road, Carrier Mills, IL died Monday June 11, 2012 at 5:43 am at his residence. Graveside memorial services will be held Friday June 15, 2012 at 11 am at Liberty Cemetery, north of Carrier Mills, IL. Reverend Harl Cockrum and Reverend Ownly Williams will officiate. There will be no visitation; all friends should go directly to the cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Carrier Mills American Legion, Harrisburg American Legion and the National Guard Ritual Team. Memorials may be made to the Ritual Team; envelopes will be available at the cemetery or may be mailed to the funeral home. Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL is in charge of arrangements. He was born on November 28, 1929 in rural Carrier Mills, IL to the late Carrol and Verna (West) Edwards. He married the former Barbara Mandrell on November 1, 1951 in Piggot, Arkansas and she survives. He served in the US Army for 4 years which included 26 months stationed in Korea during the Korean War. He graduated SIU in 1955 with a degree in TV Repair he was self employed for 40 years, he also worked for Illinois State & Williamson County Highway Department of Transportation retiring in 1992. He was also a Williamson County Precinct Committeeman for 50 years being the County Chairman for 4 years. He also helped perform Military Rites for over 60 years for Veterans funerals. He is survived by his wife: Barbara Edwards of Carrier Mills, IL; Son: Alan (Kim) Edwards of Carrier Mills, IL; Daughter: Donna (Brian) Williams of Marion, IL; Grandchildren: Tiarra (Derek) Osman, Brocton Williams and Trista Williams; Great Granchild: Treyton Osman and one on the way; 3 Sisters: Alma Lee Edwards and Vernice Owen both of Carrier Mills, IL and Nilagene (Harley) Smith of Harrisburg, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, mother in law, father in law, step father in law, 2 sister in laws and 2 brothers in law.
