Valgene Craig, 83, of 402 Oak Street, Carrier Mills, IL died Saturday June 16, 2012 at 9:15 am at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday June 21, 2012 at 11 am at Walnut Grove Baptist Church near New Burnside, IL. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery near Carrier Mills, IL with military rites by the Carrier Mills American Legion, Harrisburg American Legion and the National Guard Ritual team. Reverend Jim Holderfield and Reverend Bud McDannel will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Walnut Grove Baptist Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Valgene was born on October 3, 1928 in Stonefort, IL to the late Paul Wendell and Elizabeth Inez (Slayden) Craig. He married the former Ludene Deaton on January 6, 1953 and she survives. He retired after 44 years of service from the I.C. Railroad where he worked as a purchasing agent. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, was a member of the Stonefort American Legion, Stonefort Masonic Lodge and a member of the Walnut Grove Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and loved bee keeping with his brother: Fred; but his greatest pleasure of all was the time he spent his wife, his children and his grandchildren. He is survived by his Wife: Ludene Craig of Carrier Mills, IL; 3 Daughters: Mia (John) Hughes, Mary (John) Pritchett and Myra (Bryan) Absher all of Bedford, IN; Brother: Fred Craig of Stonefort, IL; 6 Grandchildren and 2 Step Grandchildren: Mitchell Osborne, Matthew Peterson, Nathan Hughes, Morgan Hughes, Taylor Pritchett, Alex Pritchett, Austin Absher and Connor Absher; 2 Sister In Laws: Juanita McCormick and Ladora Deaton; Brother In Law: James L. (Shirley) Deaton and several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and other family members and friends.
