Alene Martin

Alene Martin, 101, of St. Louis, MO formerly of Carrier Mills, IL died Saturday May 18, 2013 at her residence. Funeral services will be held Friday May 24, 2013 at 12 noon at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL. Visitation will be held after 11 am on Friday until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery near Carrier Mills, IL. Reverend Willie Clemmons will officiate. She was born on July 11, 1911 in Mt. Vernon, IL to the late Charlie & Laura B. (McGill) Miller. She married Asa Allen and he preceded in death in 1932, she then married William Martin in 1937 and he preceded in death in 1972. She attended Carrier Mills Grade School and Carrier Mills High School. She moved to Centerville, IL where she lived for 34 years. While there she worked at the Centerville Hospital for 22 years. She moved to St. Louis, Mo in 1939. She joined the St. Luke A.M.E. Church in East St. Louis, IL. She worked in all organizations of the church. She was a member of the missionary society and the lay organization. She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; 3 sisters: Diantha Miller, Geneva Evans and Maggie Foster and 3 Brothers: William Miller, Deneen Miller and Harry J. Miller.
