Leona M. Hyers, 86, of 1325 Barnett Street, Harrisburg, IL died Tuesday June 17, 2014 at 4:15 pm at her residence. Funeral services will be held Saturday June 21, 2014 at 1 pm at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL. Visitation will be held Friday from 6 to 8 pm. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Reverend Bernie Cowgill will officiate. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, envelopes will be available at the funeral home. She was born on July 1, 1927 in the Walnut Grove Community, near Harrisburg, IL to the late Mitto and Grace (Holmes) Fitzgerald. She married Charles (Kool Aid) Hyers on July 12, 1942 and he preceded in death on January 4, 2002. She was a member of the Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church near Harrisburg, IL. She is survived by a Son: Charlie (Kathy) Hyers of Harrisburg, IL; 3 Grandchildren: Chris (Robin) Hyers of Galatia, IL; Heather (Ray) Boon of Harrisburg, IL and Chad McCabe of Harrisburg, IL; 7 Great Grandchildren: Isabella Hyers, Aaron Davis, Autumn Moore, Logan Boon, Noah Boon, McKenna Boon and Harley McCabe; 2 Brothers: Leon Fitzgerald and John (Madge) Fitzgerald both of Carrier Mills, IL and Sister: Phyllis (John) Murphy of Ozark, IL. Shewas preceded in death by 4 Brothers: George Fitzgerald, Floyd Fitzgerald, Clarence Fitzgerald and Harvey Fitzgerald; 3 Sisters: Francis King, Mamie McAnnally and Elsie Eilene Fitzgerald; Sister In Law: Brenda Fitzgerald; and 2 Brother In Laws: Charles King and William Hyers. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses of Hospice of Southern Illinois who cared for her, Alonna, Sage and Cheryl.
