Glen Howard Rice

November 8, 1928 — March 19, 2015

Glen Howard Rice, 86 of Cottonwood, AZ formerly of Saline County and Belleville areas of Illinois peacefully left this world Thursday March 19, 2015 to be with the Lord at his home surrounded by his family. Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday March 28, 2015 at 12 noon at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:30 am until service time. Reverend Hugh Fitz will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to Harrisburg High School; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery with military rites by Carrier Mills and Harrisburg American Legion and the US Navy Ritual Team. He was born on November 8, 1928 in Harrisburg, IL to the late O.D. and Lavina (Stein) Rice. He married the former Barbara Ann Brandon; she was his loving wife for the past 59 years. Glen was a graduate of Culver Stockton College, and received his Master's degree from Illinois State University. He was a retired teacher and department chairman at Belleville Township High School East and a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Belleville. While at Zion, Glen served his church in may different areas. When he relocated to Carrier Mills, he became a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Marion IL, and most recently was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Cottonwood, AZ. While in Belleville, Glen served on many committees and boards, including Programs and Services for Older Persons and the Children's Center for Behavioral Development. He worked with the Boy Scouts for many years, was also a member of the American Legion and a Navy veteran of the Korean war. He is survived by his wife: Barbara Ann Rice of Cottonwood, AZ; 2 Children: Jill (Ralph D) Crago of San Diego, CA and Chris (Kim) Rice of Clarkdale, AZ; Sister: Jane Stafford of Franklin, TN; Aunt: Marjorie Sturm of Harrisburg, IL; Grandchildren: Corey (Chandry) Bennett, Claire Crago, William Crago, Vincent Crago, Emily Crago and Shaelani Crago; Sister In Law: Betty (Bob) Troutman; Brother In Law: Michael (Mary Ann) Brandon; as well as some very special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and Brother In Law: Sam Stafford. Feel free to join the family in honoring Glen by wearing a little bit of red, white or blue to the service.
