Cecil William Portee, Sr.

Cecil William Portee, Sr, 87, of Maywood, IL formerly of Carrier Mills, IL died Friday October 16, 2015 at Loyola Hospital in Maywood, IL. Funeral services will be held Tuesday October 27, 2015 at 11 am at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL. Visitation will be held Tuesday after 10 am until service time. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery with Reverend Ownly Williams and Donnie Duncan officiating. He was born on August 19, 1928 in Carrier Mills, IL to the late Lemuel L. and Mabel (Greenway) Portee. He married the love of his life Avalon Duncan on February 7, 1958 in Harrisburg, IL. He worked at the State Hospital in Chicago, IL as well as side jobs at Peterson Ice Cream, The Ladder Co. and Burny Brothers Bakery. He later found employment at ComEd for which he worked for 18 years until his retirement. He attended Hope Community Church in Maywood, IL. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years: Avalon R. Portee, 6 Children: Paulette (Dennis) Cannon, Terry Miller, Gail (Joe) Miller, Cecil (Renee) Portee Jr, Anthony (Jacqueline) Portee and Adrienne (Rufus) Reed; Brother: Lemuel L. Portee Jr; 31 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents: 2 Brothers Marcedus Taborn and Fred Portee and 2 Sisters: Virginia Gordon and Freda (Peden) Portee.
