Sherman Lee Russell, 67, of 155 Fourth Street, New Burnside, IL died Sunday March 26, 2017 at his residence. Memorial graveside services will be held Friday March 31, 2017 at 11 am at Little Saline Cemetery near Stonefort, IL. There will be no visitation all family and friends should go directly to the cemetery. Reverend Darrell Ford will officiate. Military rites will be performed by the Carrier Mills and Harrisburg American Legion and the Army National Guard Ritual Team. He was born on June 17, 1949 in Saline County, IL to the late George Layman and Clara Mae (Cook) Russell Sr. He married the former Edna Jacques on November 11, 1982 and she preceded in death on May 4, 1999. Sherman was a certified electrician and worked as a security guard for many years. He was a former member of the New Burnside Fire Department where he was the fire chief for many years also. He is survived by 2 Sisters: Lucy Conley of New Burnside, IL and Lola (Derel) Allen of Dunnellon, FL; 3 Brothers: George (Belinda) Russell Jr. of New Burnside, IL; Phillip Russell of Ozark, IL and Joe (Helen) Russell of New Burnside, IL; 2 Stepdaughters: Pam Brockett and Debbie Bonnell; 4 Grandchildren Robert and Stacey Langston whom he help raise and Dakota and Samantha Robertson who also was very important to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wife: Edna Russell; Brother: Jerry Russell and Stepson: Tony Robertson.
