James C. “Poppie” Hughes, 84, of 275 Gibbons Road, Harrisburg, IL died Monday April 10, 2017 at 11:42 pm at his residence. Funeral services will be held Friday April 14, 2017 at 1 pm at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL. Visitation will be held Friday after 11 am until service time. Reverend Gary Clark will officiate and burial will in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the National Cancer Association. He was born on December 29, 1932 in Harrisburg, IL to the late Eugene and Helen (Cozart) Hughes. He worked at Whirlpool for over 20 years before going to work at Eads coal mine in Belle Rive, IL then retiring from Sahara Coal Mine #6 near Carrier Mills, IL. He was survived by 2 Sons: James Hughes Jr. of Carrier Mills, IL and Eugene Hughes of Harrisburg, IL; Grandson: Keith Hughes of Carrier Mills, IL; Sister: Linda (Lowell) Furlong of Harrisburg, IL and Brother: William Hughes of Carrier Mills, IL. He was preceded in death by a Grandson: Jeremy Hughes and Daughter in Law: Kathy Hughes.
