William "Bill" David Horn

William “Bill” David Horn, 86, of Anna, Union County, Illinois, formerly of New Burnside, Johnson County, Illinois, died on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, 11:33am at the VA Nursing Home/Community Living Center in Marion, Williamson County, Illinois. During the last few years of his life, he lived with his oldest son Joe and daughter-in-law Martina Horn who provided loving care for him. Bill Horn passed away peacefully after a short battle with lung cancer, along with other medical issues. A special thank you to the Marion VA Hospital and VA Nursing Home/Community Living Center and staff for the wonderful medical and hospice care the last few weeks of his life. Funeral Services will be held at Felty Funeral Home, 410 Oak Street, Carrier Mills, Illinois. Visitation will be on Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 11:00am until the time of service at 1:00pm. Reverend Pete Slivinski will officiate. Burial will be in the Rich/Horn Cemetery on Bush Lane near New Burnside with military rites performed by the Carrier Mills & Harrisburg American Legions and Army National Guard Ritual Team of Marion. Bill was born on May 30, 1930 near New Burnside in Johnson County, Illinois to Fredrick Horn, Sr and Bernice Horn, nee Bearden. He served in the US Army as a Military Police Officer in Japan during the Occupation and Reconstruction of Japan. He retired as a Road Construction Laborer after 40 years and was a member of Laborer’s International Union of North America, Local 773 and Laborer’s Local Union 318 of Harrisburg. He enjoyed tending his small orchard, gardening, dancing, and playing cards. Bill lived hard and played hard, and did the best that he knew how all of his life. He always stood up for what he felt was right. He is survived by his children: Joseph “Joe” (Martina) Horn, Michael “Mike” (Leisa) Horn, Janice Horn Clayton, and Kevin Horn (Brenda McLaren); grandchildren: Zoie Horn, Anita (Austin) Richardson, Laura Horn (Dustin Shelton), Matthew Horn, Katie A. Clayton, Caleb Clayton, and Lucas Horn; great-grandchildren: Sidney Upton, Corbin Upton, Hailey Martin, Nikoli Jacobs, Nola Jacobs, Amalia Shelton, Arian Shelton, Christian Horn and Josiah Horn; siblings: Gladys Frost, Terry “Toby” Horn (Kathy Clark) and Mary Jean Biggerstaff; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He also is survived by former wife and mother of his children, Nancy Jo Horn, nee Joiner. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his siblings: Velma Deaton, Fred “Bud” Horn, Jr, Vern Horn, Sr, Ray Horn, Melvin “Pete” Horn, Kenneth “Pat” Horn ,Sr, Johnny Horn, and two infants. Memorial donations may be made in memory of William D. Horn toward the Legacy Endowment Fund of the Southern Illinois Community Foundation, 3000 West DeYoung Street, Suite 800-B, Marion, IL 62959.
