Lemuel Garfield Portee, Jr.

Lemuel Garfield Portee,Jr. 82, of North Aurora, IL was born on September 7, 1935 in Carrier Mills, Illinois. He left his broken earthly shell and joined our heavenly father in heaven on Thursday November 9, 2017. Lemuel was greeted in heaven by his parents, Lemuel Portee, Sr. and Mabel Greenway Portee. He was embraced by all his siblings, Marcedus Taborn, Virginia Gordon, Freda (Peden) Portee, Fred Portee, and Cecil Portee, Sr. He was welcomed by his wife, Lura Portee and one son, Richard Portee; who all preceded him in death. Lemuel express his faith in God and attended church as a member and usher at Hope Community Church in Chicago, Illinois. When he was not working, you would find Lemuel with family and friends or always wanting to go “down home”. Lemuel joined the workforce as a young man and held several jobs. Lemuel worked long hard hours to support his family. He was employed for more than 35 years with Chicago-Read Mental Hospital, worked 18 years at Brach’s Candy Factory and also worked many part-time jobs including the United States Post Office. He will remain in the fond memories of: his four children Gregory (Jennifer) Portee, Lorne Portee, Atalie (Ken) Wilson, and April (Antoine) Pickett; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday November 18, 2017 at 12 Noon at Felty Home in Carrier Mills, IL. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11 am until service time. Reverend Ownly Williams will officiate and Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
