Barney Lee Mitchell

Barney Lee Mitchell, 76, of rural Galatia, IL died Monday June 24, 2024 at 4:00 pm at Carrier Mills Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held Thursday June 27, 2024 at 12 Noon at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL. Visitation will be held Thursday after 10 am until service time. Reverend Dale Martin will officiate. Burial will be in North America Cemetery with Military rites by the U.S. Navy and Carrier Mills and Harrisburg American Legions Ritual Team. He was born on June 9, 1948 in Harrisburg, IL to the late Robert E. and Mildred (Sullivan) Mitchell. Barney married the former Fern Jordan on June 7, 1969 in East St. Louis, IL and she preceded in death on August 7, 2014. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and was very proud of the time he served, and his country. Barney was a retired security officer, he worked many years at Amax coal mine and finished his career at Walmart. Barney loved to go fishing and hunting and was also quite fond of doing woodworking. He is survived by his Son: Barney Lee (Erin) Mitchell II of Galatia, IL; 2 Sisters: Cheryl (Ernie) Goematt of Raleigh, IL and Bobbe Tabor of Eldorado, IL and 2 Brothers: Tony (Jamie) Mitchell of Golconda, IL and Patrick Mitchell of Harrisburg, IL; 2 Grandchildren: Bianca Mitchell of Eldorado, IL and Cameron Mitchell of Carmi, IL; 2 Step grandchildren: Alyssa Cox and Savannah Cox and 9 Great Grandchildren: Tessalin, Deakin, Alaina, Athena, Avaleigh, Brinley, Braxton, Brennen and Eleanor. He was preceded in death by his parents; Wife: Fern Mitchell and Brother: William “Rocky” Mitchell.
