Betty Neverna Jones

Betty Neverna Jones, 87, of Meridian, MS (formerly Harrisburg, IL) died on Monday, December 2, 2024 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL. Visitation will begin at 10 am until service time with Reverend Ownly Williams officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg, IL. She was born on May 21, 1937 in Meridian, Mississippi to the late Chester and Lillie (Merritt) Jones. She worked many years as a coal miner before she opened up Vern's Seafood Island in Harrisburg, IL . She owned and operated the restaurant for many years before her retirement. Vern was a very fun loving person whom enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by 4 Children: Angela Tyler of Harrisburg, IL; Tonya (Mike) Gooday-Minor of Houston, TX; Siidney Jones of Meridian, MS; and Chris Jones of Tampa, FL; 3 Sisters: Dorothy Coleman; Leslie Jones and Louise Smith all of Los Angeles, CA; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 Daughters: Carmen Wilson and La Sonya Wilson; 2 Grandsons: Greg Bradley and Ramone Wilson and 8 Siblings: Clyde Jones, Inell McElroy, Macon Jones, Ruby Jones, Robert "Boots" Jones; Edward Jones, Rosie Weatherspoon and Bobby Coleman.
