Carolyn Bethel

Carolyn Bethel, age 84, of Rudement, IL went to be with the Lord at 3:38 am Monday, November 25, 2024 at Saline Care Center in Harrisburg, IL. Eastern Star Rites will be at 12 Noon on Friday, November 29, 2024 with funeral services to follow, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am until service time with Reverend Glenn Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Joyner Cemetery in Stonefort, IL. She was born on April 2, 1940 in Carbondale, IL to the late Carlos and Emma Kathryn (Lewis) McSparin. Carolyn married Kirk Bethel on June 19, 1969 and he preceded her in death on October 17, 2001. Having worked as a secretary/bookkeeper at Harrisburg Unit 3 School District for 21 years, Carolyn poured her heart into her work, touching the lives of countless students and colleagues. Her retirement in 1996 was a testament to her dedication and commitment to her profession. A proud member of The Order of the Eastern Star for 62 years and a faithful member of the 7th Day Baptist Church, Carolyn found solace and joy in her spiritual journey. She took great pleasure in activities such as cooking, camping, quilting, and traveling, and rooting for her St. Louis Cardinals. Family was of great importance to Carolyn, and she adored spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering support. She is survived by her 3 Children: daughter, Marla (Clay) Agin, sons: Rick Bethel and Bart Bethel all of Harrisburg, IL; 4 Grandchildren: Beth (Matt) Koons of McKinney, TX, Josh (Veronica) Bethel of Baldwin Park, CA, Heather (Casey) Rose and Felicia (Derek) Hargrave both of Harrisburg, IL; 8 Great-grandchildren: Graham, Nora, Leia, Nina, Isla, Ivy, Kamryn and Dallas; 2 Sisters: Alice (Ron) Brooks of Macon, IL and Sue (Bill) Bethel of Harrisburg, IL; Brother: David McSparin of Marisa, IL; along with several nieces and nephews. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents: Carlos and Emma Kathryn (Lewis) McSparin, husband: Kirk Bethel, and sister-in-law: Donna McSparin.
