Obituary Donna J. Thornton, 81, of Carrier Mills, IL died at 7:25 AM on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at her place of residence. Graveside Services will be held on Monday, April 1, 2024 at 11 AM at Salem Cemetery with Rev. Ownly Williams officiating. There will be no visitation, all family and friends should go directly to the cemetery. Donna was born on December 8, 1942 in Chicago, IL to the late Donald Owen and Dorotha Janet (Weber) Owen. She married Joe Thornton on August 14, 1960. He preceded her in death on December 22, 2012. Donna had her degree in Nursing and worked home-health in Harrisburg, IL and at Gateway Rehab in Carbondale, IL. She loved to quilt, was a member of Carrier Mills First Baptist Church and an Eastern Star member. She is survived by two sons: Jimmy Joe (Kimberly) Thornton of Paducah, KY and Joseph Brian “Pug” Thornton of Carrier Mills, IL; grandchildren: Amber (Sean) McElrath and Brook Patrice Beasley both of Paducah, KY; great-grandchildren: Dalton McElrath, Kenya Beasley, Beasley of Paducah, KY and Brother: James David Owen of Marissa, IL. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, Donnie Joe Thornton. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Salem Cemetery in Carrier Mills, IL.
