Gertrude "Gertie" “Tang” Rouse Chavis, 97, of Carrier Mills, IL died Sunday November 20, 2022 at 3:30 am at the Carrier Mills Nursing and Rehab Center. Memorial services will be held Saturday November 26, 2022 at 11 am at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL. Visitation will be held Saturday after 10 am. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery and Reverend Ownly Williams will officiate. She was born on April 19, 1925 in Carrier Mills, IL to the late Ray and Zella (Floyd) Rouse. She married Nelson Chavis in 1964 and he preceded in death in 1976. She was a member of A.M.E. Baber Chapel in Carrier Mills, IL. She loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her neighbors in the Cofield Apartments. She is survived by her Daughter: Sharon Ann Rouse of Carrier Mills, IL; 2 Grandchildren: Shawn Rouse of Carrier Mills, IL and Chris (Brenda) Williams of Centralia, IL; 4 Great Grandchildren: Dustin Helton, Devan Orrill, Amber Williams and Jordan Williams; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including a very special Nephew: Jesse Rouse of Harrisburg, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 Brothers: Floyd Rouse and Raymond Rouse and 3 Sisters: Florence Rouse, Naomi Coleman and Mary Ellen Duly.
