John William Fitzgerald

John William Fitzgerald, 83, of Creal Springs, IL died Thursday February 16, 2023 at 5:30 am at his residence. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 22, 2023 at 12 noon at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL. Visitation will be held Wednesday after 10 am until service time. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. John was born on September 21, 1939 in Harrisburg, IL to the late Mitto and Grace (Holmes) Fitzgerald. He married the former Madge Tanner on September 28, 1961 and she survives. John worked many jobs, including abatement work, coal mining and bartending at the Carrier Mills American Legion for many years. He was a member by faith at the North America Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing and especially his grandchildren: He is survived by his Wife: Madge Fitzgerald of Creal Springs, IL; 6 Children: Debbie Clark of Carmi, IL; David (Kris) Holmes of Carrier Mills, IL; Quentin Fitzgerald of Hillsboro, IL; Kelly (David) Mitchell of Galatia, IL; Angie (David) Kyle of Carrier Mills, IL and Robbie (Jimmy) Sherrod of Creal Springs, IL; 13 Grandchildren: Kristie (Kyle) Nernberger, Andrea (Marvin) Thompson, Samantha (Billy) Mayes, Randy (Erica) Winters, Jonathon Holmes, Timmy (Jeanette) Couty, Kristin (Logan) Warren, Julia (Shad) Mattingly, Dylan Kyle and Benjiman Mitchell, Marianne (Julianna) Sherrod, Kristina (Donald) Kapit and Jeremy Compton, 16 Great grandchildren; Brother: Leon Fitzgerald of Harrisburg, IL and Sister: Phyllis Murphy. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 Brothers: George Fitzgerald, Floyd Fitzgerald, Clarence Fitzgerald, Harvey Fitzgerald; and 3 Sisters: Leona Hyers, Frances King and Mamie McAnally.
