Lanny LaRon Sumner, 73, of Carrier Mills, Illinois, passed away peacefully with his wife Teddi, who never left his side, on February 7, 2024, in Carbondale, Illinois. Lanny was born on March 27, 1950, in Carrier Mills, Illinois. Raised Methodist by his parents Donal and Peggy Sumner. He was a beloved husband, son, father, papaw, brother, and everyone's favorite uncle. Lanny was loved by all. Never met a stranger. Could make you smile or laugh even on the darkest of days, a true ray of sunshine! Lanny married the love of his, Teddi Lee Price, on July 9, 1976, and their love story spanned 47 beautiful years. He will be remembered as “Her Forever Guy”. If you were one of the lucky ones, Lanny would stop by early and have a cup of coffee and share some stories. Lanny took great pride in his home on The Hill, which he and his family built in 1993. You could always find him outside with his shadow Sapphire and throw a friendly wave or honk while passing the corner of that beautiful blue house. In his professional life, Lanny worked at Old Ben 24 and also had experience in construction before embarking on a career with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). He joined IDOT as a Highway Maintainer and later transitioned to the roles of Winter Snow Plow Operator and Sign Truck Operator for traffic with District 9, TS 919. Lanny dedicated 20 years of service to IDOT before retiring on December 31, 2007. He will be remembered as “One hell of a sign man.” Lanny also served on the Carrier Mills Township Board. Lanny leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his loving wife, Teddi Lee (Price) Sumner or Carrier Mills, Illinois; his son, Jarrod, and daughter-in-law, Stacy Sumner of Carrier Mills; his grandchildren, Kyla Sumner, Alexa Sumner, Colton Smith, Catherine Franco, Alexis Vaughn, Whitney Kuhlmann, and Bryar Kuhlmann; his siblings, Michael Sumner of Harrisburg, Paula Sumner of Harrisburg, Brian Sumner or Carrier Mills, Debbie and Mark Cooper of Palm Bay, Florida, Terri Price of Wesley Chapel, Florida, Anna Marie Price of Harrisburg, and TR Price of Harrisburg; his mother and father-in-law, Teddy Ray and Lee Anna Price of Harrisburg, Illinois; his very special niece, Candace Rae Hurd of Yelm, Washington; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; and an endless amount of cousins. Lanny was preceded in death by his father, Donal Sumner Sr., his mother Peggy (Cole) Sumner, his siblings, Kevin Sumner, Mark Sumner, Wendy Neal and Donal Sumner Jr., and his granddaughter, Brittany Lee Sumner. Lanny LaRon Sumner will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched. His memory will forever be cherished, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. Celebration of life will be held Monday, February 19, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, Illinois. Visitation will be held Monday from 12:00 PM until service time. Reverend Ownly Williams and Reverend Teddy Ray Price will officiate.
