Ronald Marion Brooks, 87, of Brussels, IL (formerly Stonefort, IL) died at 12:30 pm on Monday March 3, 2025 at the Eastern Star Center in Macon, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Sunday March 9, 2025 at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL. Visitation will begin at 10 am through service time with Reverend Glenn Lewis officiating. Masonic rites will be held at 10:45 am. Burial will follow services at Joyner Cemetery in Stonefort, IL. Memorials may be made to the Old Stonefort Seventh Day Baptist Church or the American Parkinson Disease Association. He was born on October 26, 1937 in Alton, IL to the late George Marion and Alice Elizabeth (Fry) Brooks. He married the former Alice Joan McSparin on September 7, 1957 at Main Street Methodist Church in Alton, IL they were blessed to share 67.5 years of marriage together. Ronald graduated in 1955 from the Alton Senior High School and participated in a co-op with the Wedge Bank during his senior year. He attended Shurtleff College in Alton while working at the Wedge Bank for 1 year. He started working young, helping his father with floral deliveries, and then at the age of 13 he sold ice cream bars and pints for Shearburns Ice Cream, peddling his ice cream bicycle in the "pie-town" area of upper Alton. He later worked for the Alton School district. Canteen, Duncan Foundry as security officer and payroll until it closed in 1982. He then worked for Alton Mental Center as grounds crew maintenance until retirement. Post retirement he drove a school bus for Saline County, IL for 12 years. He was a member of the Main Street Methodist Church in Alton, IL; member of the Alton Municipal Band spanning 3 decades playing the trombone. He was also a member of the Alton Chapter Demolay, and the Franklin Masonic Lodge in Alton, IL. After retirement they relocated to Stonefort, IL to enjoy the quiet country life. He was a member of the Old Stonefort Seventh Day Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star in Stonefort and Eddyville. He also enjoyed square dancing, watching basketball and football. He was also an Indian Guide Counselor, Sunday School teacher, worship and song leader. In addition to his wife: Alice Brooks he is survived by 4 Children: Carl (Mona) Brooks of Raymore, MO; Rhonda Brooks of Brussels, IL; Kathryn (Michael) Hartmann of Alton, IL; and Paula (James) Landrum of Lenexa, KS; 12 grandchildren: Hillary (Troy) Wohlberg, Wesley (Lauren English) Brooks, Tyler (Kayla) Brooks; Justin (Tiffany) Hartmann, Meghan (Carl) Ekstrand, Lydia (Chris) Rhodes, Jessica (Jarrod) Mermis, Sarah Brooks and fiancee` Nick Kinder, Nicholas Landrum, Isaac Landrum, Sophie Landrum and Genevieve Landrum; 18 great grandchildren; Brother: George N. (Marilyn Newsome) Brooks; Sister: Francine (Bruce) Goodrich; Sister and Brother In Law: Sue and Bill Bethel; Brother In Law David McSparin; many nieces, nephews, extended family and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother: William Arron Brooks and infant grandson Zachary Landrum.
