William "Lucky" Leroy Dowdy

William “Lucky” Leroy Dowdy, 91, of Harrisburg, IL went home to be with The Lord at 9:00 AM, Wednesday April 3, 2024 at the V.A. Medical Center in Marion, IL. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Spring Valley Social Brethren Church in Harrisburg, IL. Visitation will be held after 11 AM until service time. Reverend Travis Butler and Reverend Jerry Wells will officiate. Military rites will be performed by the Army National Guard, and Carrier Mills and Harrisburg Legions and VFW’s. Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL is assisting the family with arrangements. He was born on November 22, 1932 in Harrisburg, IL to the late William H. Dowdy and Madie (Pyle) Dowdy. He married Chloe Phyllis Duncan on April 1, 1955. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2018. He was an Army veteran and served our country in the Korean War. He retired as a mechanic after working at Raben Tire and Frier’s Uptown Service. He was a Deacon at Spring Valley Social Brethren Church in Harrisburg, IL, and enjoyed spreading the gospel. When not at church, he enjoyed spending his free time gardening. He is survived by his Daughter: Debra (Kenny) Richard of Johnston City, IL; Son: Lester (Denise) Dowdy of Harrisburg, IL; Brother: Kenny (Ruby) Dowdy of Harrisburg, IL; Sister: Betty (Bill) Browning of Harrisburg, IL; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; Wife: Chloe Phyllis Duncan; Son: Lyndell Dowdy; Brothers: Donald Dowdy and Bill Dowdy.
