Gerald “Hammer” K. Mahan, 73, of 175 Barrett Lane, Harrisburg, IL died Tuesday April 18, 2017 at 9:29 pm in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. Funeral services will be held Sunday April 23, 2017 at 2 pm at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg, IL. Visitation will be held Saturday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL is in charge of arrangements. He was born on March 24, 1944 in Evansville, IN to the late Roby and Hazel (Davenport) Mahan. He married the former Joann Patton on June 24, 1972 and she survives. He worked for Sahara Coal Company for 42 years before they closed. He then worked for the City of Harrisburg where he was the Superintendent of Public Property until his retirement in 2013. He served as a past president of the Progressive Mine Workers of America, former member of the Harrisburg Elks Lodge and also served as a past Exalted Ruler of the Harrisburg Elks Lodge. He is survived by his wife: Joann Mahan of Harrisburg, IL; Daughter: Ashley (Justin) Roper of Harrisburg, IL; Grandson: Jaxton Roper of Harrisburg, IL; 3 Sisters: Linda (Gary) Crawford of Cincinnati, OH; Sandra (Rick) Prather of Equality, IL and Cynthia Mahan of Equality, IL; Brother: Jeff Mahan of Harrisburg, IL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and Brother: Roger Mahan.
